For the first part of my thesis, Celluloid Chronicles: The Reel History of Photography, I wanted to create artwork that pays homage to the great scientists, botanists, and artists who came before me. I wanted to display their work in a new way, not just print off cheap knockoffs and claim it would add to my exhibit. I scrolled on Pinterest (as many often do) and found images of necklaces full of antique-looking charms with detailed photos inside. Upon further research, the necklace is called “Handmade OOAK 21 Antique Vintage photo charms Swag Festoon Statement Necklace” by The Vintage Sequin, “Who They Were - Gothic Victorian necklace” by Atelier Sadistica, and “I Am Who They Were” by Ashley Gilreath, but what drew me to the design was the interconnectivity of the chains to the different images. Many artists and scientists needed to build off each other's research and art to get to where we are in photography today. I thought the interconnected chains showcased that beautifully.
